Subject competitions organised by regional education authorities

Regional subject competitions – preparation that opens the doors to the best secondary schools

Many talented primary school students perform excellently with their school material, but when they encounter problems from regional subject competitions, they feel they are in a completely different league. And they are right – the requirements go far beyond the standard curriculum, often covering material from the first years of secondary school. Without targeted support, even the most ambitious student can get stuck at the district stage.

At MonPat Education we provide preparation for regional subject competitions in a way that combines solid subject knowledge with training in problem-solving thinking. Our mentors – graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and leading Polish universities – know how to guide a student through all three stages of the competition: school, district, and regional. Our goal is not only the title of laureate or finalist, but also real competences that will pay dividends in secondary school, at the final exam, and in further education.

The first consultation is free – it is a good opportunity to talk about your child’s aptitudes, discuss goals, and plan a strategy for entering the chosen competitions.

Who is this support for?

The preparation programme for regional subject competitions is aimed at students in years 7 and 8 of primary school who want more than the standard school curriculum. It is an offer for children who:

  • are “good at school” but have never been trained in solving unusual, problem-based tasks,
  • want to earn the title of laureate or finalist in order to secure priority admission to their chosen secondary school,
  • are planning to enter secondary school olympiads in the future and need solid foundations now,
  • are thinking ahead about studies at prestigious universities in Poland or abroad and want to start building a strong academic profile,
  • need a demanding but supportive environment – one in which their potential is genuinely developed.

We also work with parents who want to understand how the school competition system in Poland works, how regional subject competitions differ from junior subject olympiads, and how to choose the competition that best matches their child’s strengths.

Why do regional subject competitions matter so much?

Competitions organised by regional education authorities are prestigious regional events in which each authority sets its own rules, dates, and subject scope. This means that preparation must be precisely tailored to the region in which the student is competing – general courses are often insufficient.

The title of laureate or finalist opens very specific doors. It gives priority in admission to the best secondary schools, including those with bilingual and international programmes. This in turn translates into a better start in preparing for the Polish school-leaving exam, the IB diploma, or A-Levels, and ultimately into higher chances of success in applications to prestigious universities.

It is worth taking a broader view. Better preparation today means a better secondary school, and that translates into a stronger university candidate profile, a wider network of contacts, and greater professional career opportunities. Regional competitions are not just a line on a CV – they are the beginning of a path that requires consistency but delivers concrete, long-term results. Many of our current students applying to Oxford, Cambridge, and LSE began their academic journey with successes in primary school competitions.

Our methodology – how we actually prepare students for regional competitions

Competitions require a level close to the first year of university study: analysis, reasoning, and work with more demanding material. Standard “catching up on school content” is not enough. That is why our approach rests on several pillars.

Every student begins with an individual diagnostic assessment – we check where their knowledge currently stands, how they handle problem-solving thinking, and which areas require the most attention. On this basis, a specific work plan is drawn up with clear milestones and deadlines. We work intensively on archive competition problems published by regional education authorities, teaching the student to recognise typical patterns and traps.

A very important element is timed problem-solving practice. Fixed time limits, stage start times, and strict answer keys mean that even a well-prepared student can lose points through stress or poor time management. We simulate exam conditions, analyse each attempt, and draw conclusions together.

After every session, the student and parent receive brief feedback – what went well, what still needs work, and what the plan is for the next session. This allows the parent to see real progress, not just hours spent in lessons. We are also available between sessions: if a question comes up about homework or a doubt arises about strategy, the student can simply get in touch.

Why do parents and students choose us? Because they get clarity, a plan, clear expectations, and the sense that someone genuinely knows the system – from the rules of individual regional authorities to the details of the oral stage.

Scope of support – what preparation covers in detail

Our competition preparation programme is comprehensive and can be flexibly adapted to the student’s needs and chosen subject. As part of regional competition preparation, we offer:

  • Analysis of the subject scope required in the given region and for the chosen subject – taking into account the current regional authority regulations,
  • Work on archive problems from all three stages (school, district, regional) from previous years,
  • Extended theory going beyond the primary school curriculum, reaching into secondary school material where necessary,
  • Preparation for the oral stage – training in argumentation, presenting solutions, and answering difficult questions from the panel,
  • Strategic and project consultations – assistance in choosing the competitions best suited to the student’s profile and in understanding the differences between regional competitions and olympiads,
  • Timed problem-solving practice and error analysis after each mock session.

We plan the work schedule well in advance, bearing in mind that the school stage usually falls in October, the district stage between November and January, and the regional stage in February and March. The earlier we begin, the more calmly and effectively we can cover all the material.

Competitions are just the beginning – what comes next?

Success in a regional competition is a great start, but at MonPat Education we look much further ahead. Our mission is the comprehensive preparation of students for education at the highest level – from primary school, through secondary school, to prestigious studies in Poland and abroad.

If your child is already performing well in regional competitions, the natural next step may be junior subject olympiads, and in secondary school – the mathematics olympiad, biology, chemistry, or physics olympiad, or the English language olympiad. The title of laureate in a national olympiad guarantees university admission in Poland and is a major distinguishing factor in international applications.

For students thinking about studying outside Poland, we also run programmes preparing for universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, and the United States. Our flagship product is the Oxbridge programme – comprehensive support in applying to Oxford and Cambridge, covering mock interviews, personal statement editing, entrance test preparation, and building a top-tier candidate profile.

Even at the stage of regional competitions it is worth thinking about which educational direction suits the child best. We help with this through services such as secondary school profile matching and academic mentoring – because a good secondary school is not only about an excellent teaching team, but also about the right environment for developing passions and talents.
