Psychological coaching
Psychological coaching – support that helps you consciously choose and realise a plan to study abroad
The decision to study abroad is one of the most significant challenges in a teenager’s life and that of their family. Good grades, language skills, and ambition are only the beginning – far more difficult is often coping with the pressure, uncertainty, perfectionism, and fear of failure that accompany the application process. Psychological coaching at MonPat Education is a response to these challenges: personalised support that helps the student recognise their own strengths, organise their goals, and enter the admissions process with calm and confidence.
Within the programme we combine elements of personal development coaching with psychological knowledge, so that the student not only applies effectively to their dream university, but also learns to manage emotions, motivation, and stress. This is psychological support tailored to the reality of a young person who is facing a choice of degree, country, and application strategy. The first consultation is completely free – it allows you to explore, without any commitment, whether our approach suits the needs of the student and the family.
Psychological coaching at MonPat Education is not therapy or “motivating conversations”. It is a structured process of working towards specific goals: making a conscious choice of degree programme, building a candidate profile, preparing for admissions interviews, and maintaining psychological balance throughout a demanding admissions process.

Who is psychological coaching for?
In our experience, the students who gain the most from coaching are those who are seriously considering studying abroad but need someone to help them organise their thinking, emotions, and decisions. The programme is primarily aimed at:
- students in years 1–3 of secondary school planning to study in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, the United States, or Italy,
- students on the IB programme and those sitting the Polish school-leaving exam with ambitions to apply to top universities,
- candidates for medicine, science, economics, and engineering programmes, where the pressure to perform is particularly high,
- students struggling with perfectionism, fear of public speaking, and low confidence despite very good grades,
- young people who do not know which field to choose and need a guide through the process of self-discovery,
- families in which the application process generates tension and generational conflict.
Many students with excellent results fall short at the interview stage not because of a lack of knowledge, but because they cannot hold a relaxed academic conversation under pressure. Coaching helps build a resilience that no school can teach.
Why is psychological coaching so important in the application process?
International admissions are selective, lengthy, and multi-stage. Admissions panels at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, or universities in the Netherlands are not looking for “candidates with good grades”. They are looking for people who are intellectually mature, self-aware, and resilient under pressure. These are qualities that cannot be “faked” at an interview or “inserted” into a personal statement at the last minute.
Psychological coaching addresses a problem that parents often do not notice until it is too late: a student may be excellently prepared in subject knowledge and yet still struggle with the application process. The reasons vary – burnout after years of intensive study, paralysing perfectionism, indecision about a field of study, or a conflict between one’s own dreams and the expectations of those around them.
Working with a coach helps the student:
- identify their own goals – not those imposed by school, friends, or parents,
- consciously build a top-tier candidate profile based on genuine interests,
- master techniques for managing stress before exams and interviews,
- develop the ability to present themselves and hold an academic conversation,
- build the confidence that is visible during an interview,
- maintain motivation and balance throughout a demanding, multi-year process.
This is a long-term investment. Better psychological preparation translates into a better university, a stronger network, and greater career opportunities. A student who learns to manage themselves as a teenager gains a skill that will pay dividends throughout their adult life – at work, in relationships, and in future educational decisions.
How we work – the coaching methodology at MonPat Education
Our approach is based on individual work with each student, but in a very concrete, structured form. We do not believe in randomness or “general development conversations”. Every session has a clear goal, a plan, and a measurable outcome.
At the start of the collaboration we create a roadmap – a clear action plan for the coming months or years, tailored to the stage the student is at. We work on both academic goals (choice of university, field of study, application strategy) and personal resources (coping with pressure, time management, self-presentation).
After every session we provide brief feedback that helps the student and parent see progress and understand what we are currently working on. Parents regularly receive progress reports – they know what stage their child is at, what goals have already been achieved, and what challenges lie ahead. Between sessions we are available for contact, because we know that important questions do not always arise during scheduled hours.
Why do parents and students choose us?
- We combine life coaching with concrete knowledge of the international admissions system – we know what panels genuinely look for,
- our tutors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities – many of them have served as examiners themselves,
- we build a relationship based on trust, in which the student can speak openly about doubts and concerns,
- we offer genuine contact between sessions – we do not disappear after the scheduled appointment,
- we work with a long-term perspective – we see the student as a person, not an “application case”.
Coaching is available in person and online – so that a student from anywhere in Poland has access to support at the highest level.
Scope of support within psychological coaching
The coaching programme at MonPat Education is comprehensive psychological support that accompanies the student at every stage of the application process. Depending on needs, we work on one or several areas simultaneously:
- Student profile analysis – strengths, interests, values, aptitudes,
- University and degree programme selection matched to genuine potential and life goals,
- Application strategy – an action schedule and priorities for the coming months,
- Support in preparing for entrance tests – working on concentration and managing exam stress,
- Mock interviews in the Oxbridge supervision style – practising responses under pressure and working with difficult questions,
- Multiple rounds of personal statement editing and work on the candidate’s authentic voice,
- Building a research portfolio and an academic way of thinking,
- A 1–3 year plan for personal and academic development.
Coaching helps the student understand who they are, what they want, and how to share this with the admissions panel in a convincing and genuine way.
Psychological coaching and comprehensive support in applying to universities abroad
Coaching is an important but not the only element of the application process. At MonPat Education we offer comprehensive support – from subject tutoring, through preparation for the IB and A-Level exams, all the way to finalising an application to a specific university. If a student is enrolled in our coaching programme, they naturally have access to the entire ecosystem of services that strengthen their position as a candidate.
If the goal is to study in the United Kingdom, it is worth exploring our grade analysis and UK university selection programme, as well as the Ivy League Plus application programme. Candidates for medicine abroad most often combine coaching with a potential assessment for medicine in Italy or Ireland. For those considering economics programmes, we recommend our Bocconi University potential assessment, and for arts-based fields, our Art & Design portfolio analysis.
We also combine coaching with the selection of the right degree programme, extracurricular development, and mentoring. For IB students, coaching combined with Extended Essay and TOK support often proves particularly valuable – these elements frequently determine the attractiveness of a candidate’s profile. If a student is only just beginning to think about a future abroad, IB secondary school preparation is also a good starting point.
Through this combination, the student receives coherent academic and psychological care, and the parent has confidence that no stage of the process will be overlooked.
