IELTS Academic language course
IELTS Academic language course — preparation for the examination that opens doors to universities abroad
A high grade in English at school does not always translate into the result required by universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, or the United States. IELTS Academic is an English language examination in an academic context, and its logic is entirely different from that of school lessons. It tests not so much knowledge of grammar as the ability to read academic articles, describe data, argue in an essay, and hold a conversation under time pressure.
Our IELTS Academic language course prepares students for this examination in a way that genuinely reflects what universities require, rather than simply practising the language in isolation from context. Students become familiar with the examination format, practise time management strategies, write essays and data description reports, and take part in regular speaking sessions that help them overcome the language barrier before the real conversation with the examiner.
The first consultation is free of charge, after which we propose a plan tailored to the student’s starting level, the date of their examination, and the score required by their chosen university.

Who the IELTS Academic course is for
We design the course with students in mind who treat English as an educational tool rather than just another subject to pass. The people who come to us most frequently are those facing a specific decision or deadline.
- Students planning to study abroad who need an IELTS certificate at the level required by their university (most commonly 6.5–7.5).
- Students on the IB International Baccalaureate programme, for whom IELTS is a natural addition to their candidate profile.
- Polish matura students who are applying to universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, or Italy and need to provide documented evidence of their language level.
- Students who perform well at school but lose confidence when they have to argue independently, analyse an academic text, or speak in an examination situation.
- Parents looking for a predictable process — who want to be certain that language level will not be a barrier during the application or later at university.
Why IELTS Academic matters so much for applications to universities abroad
The majority of English-language universities treat IELTS as a formal admissions requirement. Without the required score an application is not considered, regardless of how strong the other elements of the candidate’s profile are. This is why IELTS preparation must be treated as a separate project rather than an add-on to school English lessons.
Importantly, IELTS Academic differs from the General Training version. Three of the four sections have a distinctly academic character. Reading is based on three academic texts and is close in format to what a student will encounter in their first year at university. Writing requires, among other things, describing data from a graph, table, or diagram — a skill that Polish schools essentially do not practise. Listening includes extracts from lectures and academic conversations. Speaking lasts 11 to 14 minutes and tests the ability to speak fluently and logically under time pressure.
The first three sections are taken on the same day without breaks, totalling approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. This represents a significant cognitive load that, without prior practice under exam-like conditions, often results in a score lower than the student’s actual language level.
Looking at the broader picture, a strong IELTS result is not simply a passed examination. It is an entry point to a better university, a stronger network, and a more demanding but also more rewarding professional start. Students who combine solid subject preparation with a high level of English build a candidate profile that is simply hard to reject.
How the course works and why parents choose us
We work individually, online, with a clear plan laid out across the entire preparation period. After every session the student and parent receive brief feedback stating what went well, what we are working on in the following week, and what the current distance to the target score is. This means there is never a moment during the course when the question arises: “are we going in the right direction?”
The starting point is a diagnostic test that shows the student’s real level across all four sections. We then draw up a plan that typically includes:
- Examination format training — completing tasks in real time, in both paper-based and computer-based formats, so the student is familiar with both and can choose the one that suits them.
- A specialist academic module — writing reports based on graphs and tables, analysing academic texts, working with examination task instructions.
- Examination strategies — time management techniques, task sequencing, the most common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
- Regular one-to-one speaking sessions conducted at a pace close to the examination, so the student becomes accustomed to the interview format.
- Access to materials and sample tests for independent work between sessions.
- A mock exam under conditions as close as possible to the real examination, usually three to four weeks before the test date.
The tutors running the sessions are graduates of Oxford, Cambridge, and other leading universities who have been through the language certification process themselves and know exactly what an examiner looks for when assessing writing and speaking. We do not teach “English in general” — we teach a specific examination whose format and criteria we know in detail.
We remain in contact between sessions. If a student gets stuck on a task, if a parent wants to ask about progress, or if a question arises about choosing an examination date — we respond promptly. In fact, this is the element of our work that parents mention most often when we ask them why they stay with us.

IELTS Academic is part of a broader pathway — applying to universities abroad
The IELTS course is often the first step in a larger process. Students who sit this examination are typically applying to universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, or the United States. Each of these systems has its own admissions logic, its own entrance tests, and its own expectations of the personal statement.
For this reason, our students most commonly combine the IELTS course with further application support. For those aiming for Oxford or Cambridge we have a dedicated Oxbridge programme, within which we run mock interviews, personal statement editing, and preparation for admissions tests such as the Oxford TSA, MAT, and TMUA. For candidates applying to medicine, this is supplemented by the UCAT, IMAT, or HPAT. For applicants to the United States — the SAT or ACT.
If a student is following the IB International Baccalaureate programme or A-levels, the IELTS course fits naturally into the application preparation plan — it strengthens the candidate profile and settles the question of formally documenting language level. For students preparing for the Polish matura who are thinking about universities abroad, online IELTS provides the flexibility to work at their own pace, regardless of where they live.
We look at the student as a whole. From the free initial consultation, the student leaves with not only an IELTS study plan but also a map of the next steps: which tests will be needed, when to start writing the personal statement, which universities are a realistic fit for their profile, and which extracurricular activities are worth developing over the coming year.
