Physics Olympiad
Physics olympiad – preparation that opens doors to the best universities
The physics olympiad is one of the most prestigious subject competitions in Poland, organized continuously since 1951 by the Polish Physical Society. The title of laureate or finalist opens doors to virtually every technical university and university in the country, and in foreign applications it becomes one of the strongest academic differentiators. The challenge is that school – even a very good one – rarely prepares students for this level of competition. Olympiad physics is close to first-year university level: analysis, reasoning, working with literature, and solving problems that appear in no textbook.
At MonPat Education we deliver physics olympiad preparation in a way that combines academic standards with an individual approach to the student. We work with ambitious students for whom the school curriculum is not enough – and who want to genuinely compete for a university place, prestige, and a strong candidate profile. Our tutors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities who have themselves been through subject competitions and know how the assessment panel thinks.
The first consultation is free – during it we assess the student’s potential, discuss the scope of the competition, and establish a realistic preparation plan for the next olympiad stage.

Who is physics olympiad preparation for?
This physics olympiad training is designed for students who want more than the core curriculum. It is a path for ambitious people ready to work in a demanding but supportive environment. Many talented students do not succeed in olympiads not because they lack ability, but because they have never been trained in problem-solving thinking. They may be “good at school,” but when confronted with non-standard olympiad problems they lose their footing – and that is exactly the moment where we step in.
We particularly recommend the program for:
- secondary and vocational school students who want to earn the title of finalist or laureate in the physics olympiad and gain a guaranteed university place,
- students planning to apply for technical and science programs – physics, engineering, natural sciences, mechatronics, computer science,
- candidates for foreign universities, for whom the olympiad is one of the strongest profile elements in applications to universities in the UK, the Netherlands, or the US,
- students on IB and A-Level programs who want to strengthen their scientific profile,
- students participating in the olympiad for the first time who need an organized work plan.
Why does the physics olympiad matter so much?
The physics olympiad is a Ministry of Education olympiad, which means that its laureates and finalists benefit from formal admissions privileges. The title of laureate is often a direct guaranteed place at a technical university or university in Poland – without the need to factor in the matura result in the given subject. For candidates targeting medicine, physics, engineering, or computer science, this is not just an advantage but a genuine competitive edge.
In foreign admissions the olympiad carries even greater weight. The admissions committees of Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, and American universities look for candidates who go beyond the school curriculum and can demonstrate their interests through concrete achievements. A good matura alone is not enough. What counts is depth of understanding, the ability to think through problems, and an academic working style – and the physics olympiad is one of the most credible proofs that a student possesses these competencies.
The competition consists of three stages. The school stage (correspondence) requires registration in the Main Committee of the Physics Olympiad system and independent completion of tasks at home. The regional stage takes place at academic centers and consists of two parts. The national stage (final) is held in Warsaw and includes both advanced theoretical problems and laboratory experiments requiring high analytical competence. The five best competitors qualify for the International Physics Olympiad, preceded by a special preparatory camp.
The long-term significance of this work is the greatest of all, however. Better preparation leads to better results, better results lead to a better university, and a better university leads to a stronger network and greater career opportunities. What today is physics training becomes, in a few years, the foundation of a professional path in science, technology, or finance.
Working methodology – why do parents and students choose MonPat Education?
Our approach to preparation for the physics competition is based on academic rather than school methodology. We treat every student individually – beginning with a thorough analysis of their strengths and areas that need work. We then draw up a roadmap tailored to the olympiad stage the student is currently at and the timing of the competition.
We work on archived olympiad problems, extended theory that goes beyond the core curriculum, and academic literature. We devote a great deal of time to error analysis – because errors, not correctly solved problems, build competencies most quickly. We simulate individual olympiad stages, including the oral stage, in which the student must defend their reasoning before a panel.
After every session the student and parent receive brief feedback – what was covered, what needs further work, and what the next steps are. Between sessions we stay in contact and answer questions that arise during the student’s independent work. For many families it is precisely this predictability, the clear plan, and the sense that someone genuinely knows the system from the inside that are the deciding reason for choosing us.
Why do parents and students choose us?
- Clarity and a plan – the student knows what to do and when, and the parent sees real progress.
- Academic-level tutors – our mentors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and leading Polish universities, many of them former olympiad participants themselves.
- Feedback after every session – a brief, specific summary of the work done and the next steps.
- Work on real problems – we analyze examples from previous editions and typical olympiad pitfalls.
- Calm and predictability – no chaos, clear expectations at every stage of the collaboration.
- Availability between sessions – we stay in contact even when the student encounters difficulties during independent problem-solving.
- 100% success rate – our students gain places at their desired universities and regularly achieve success in olympiads.
Scope of support – physics olympiad
Our physics olympiad preparation program is comprehensive support covering all stages of the competition:
- analysis of the material scope and individual diagnosis of the student’s level,
- work on archived problems from previous editions of the physics olympiad,
- extended theory going beyond the secondary school program, drawing on academic textbooks,
- training in solving non-standard problems and developing argumentation skills,
- analysis of typical mistakes and strategies for approaching problem-based tasks,
- preparation for the oral stage and the experimental section of the final,
- project consultations for laboratory tasks,
- a one- to three-year work plan tailored to the student’s long-term goals.
The physics olympiad as part of a broader educational strategy
At MonPat Education we view the olympiad not as a goal in itself, but as part of a broader student development strategy. The title of finalist or laureate is a strong asset that works best in combination with a well-planned university application. That is why we also offer our students support in choosing their educational path – from secondary school profile matching, through choosing a degree program in Poland, to full support in foreign applications.
If a student is considering studies in the UK, the physics olympiad complements preparation for entrance exams such as TMUA or MAT extremely well, and in an application for natural sciences at Cambridge or physics at Oxford it becomes one of the elements building a top-tier candidate profile. For those aiming for Italy we offer an IMAT exam preparation course, and for candidates targeting Dutch or Danish universities – full application guidance. For students on IB and A-Level programs, olympiad training allows a more relaxed approach to final exams, as school-level problems feel significantly easier afterwards.
Many of our students begin their collaboration with one service – tutoring, olympiad preparation, or application support – and over time make use of the entire MonPat Education ecosystem. This is natural, because thorough preparation for university is a process in which individual elements reinforce one another. The olympiad builds academic competencies, tutoring provides a solid foundation, and application guidance translates all of this into concrete places at the best universities.
