Studying in the USA
Studying in the USA – comprehensive preparation for applying to American universities
The dream of studying in the USA comes with one of the most demanding admissions processes in the world. American universities don’t look solely at grades – they examine the way a candidate thinks, their extracurricular achievements, motivation and academic potential. Many talented students fall at the application stage because no one has explained to them what the admissions system in the United States actually looks like, which exams to take, and how to write an essay that will catch the committee’s attention.
At MonPat Education, we guide students through this process step by step. Our team consists of graduates of Cambridge, Oxford and other leading universities around the world, who know the rules of the game – not just in theory, but from their own experience. This allows us to genuinely increase your child’s chances of getting into their dream university in the USA. The first consultation is free – it’s a great opportunity to discuss the student’s profile and put together a preliminary action plan.

Who is our university preparation programme for the USA designed for?
We have created the programme with students in mind who are making a conscious choice to pursue an American education system – due to the flexibility of studies, the possibility of combining disciplines (liberal arts), access to scholarships, and the prestige of Ivy League and Top 50 universities. It is aimed at students in years 1–3 of secondary school (both the Polish system and IB and A-Level programmes) who want to approach the process seriously and leave nothing to chance.
It is also an offer for parents who want the reassurance that their child won’t waste their potential. Good grades are not enough – universities in the USA expect candidates to demonstrate academic thinking, maturity and the ability to discuss their passions. We support students who:
- want to apply to universities in the USA from the Top 50 or Ivy League,
- dream of studying medicine, engineering, economics, business or the arts,
- are aiming for academic or athletic scholarships,
- need a structured plan for 1–3 years before their application,
- want to build a genuinely competitive candidate profile.
Why is preparation for studying in the USA so important?
The American system differs from the European one far more than one might expect. Studies in the USA are divided into undergraduate (Associate – 2 years, or Bachelor – 4 years) and graduate (master’s degrees, doctoral programmes, professional programmes). Each level requires a different application strategy, different exams and a different approach to building an academic CV.
At the undergraduate level, candidates are most commonly required to take a language test – TOEFL or IELTS – as well as the SAT exam, which assesses reading, writing and mathematics. However, that is just the beginning. Universities expect an application essay (Common Application essay), a description of extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation – typically a minimum of three for doctoral programmes – and documentation of achievements. Each of these elements is assessed separately, and in many cases it is the essay and letters of recommendation, rather than test scores alone, that determine admission.
Another important element of the admissions process is GPA – the grade point average on a 0–4.0 scale – as well as an understanding of how the credit points system works. In full-time undergraduate studies, students are typically required to earn a minimum of 12 credit points per semester, and completing a Bachelor’s degree requires 120–180 points. For master’s programmes, it’s 30–60 points. Understanding this system at the application stage helps students make informed choices about their course and university.
Why is it worth investing in this preparation? Because a better university means more than just a degree. It means an academic environment, a professional network, access to global companies recruiting directly from campus, and a real advantage in the job market – including in Poland. Graduates of top American universities build careers that would be difficult to achieve with a degree from a mass-market institution. It is an investment that pays dividends throughout an entire professional life.
How we work – a methodology that delivers results in US university admissions
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all approaches. Every student is different, and American universities particularly value candidates with a distinctive, authentic profile. That is why we begin our work with a thorough analysis of the student’s potential – their strengths, interests, existing achievements and goals. On this basis, we create an individual application roadmap: from choosing a university and course, through planning exams, to a strategy for building an extracurricular CV.
After each session, the student and parent receive brief feedback – they know what has been done, what the next steps are and what areas to focus on. Between meetings, we remain in regular contact, answering questions and responding to current needs. This is very important, because the application process spans many months and situations often arise that require quick decisions – choosing an additional exam, entering a competition, revising an essay before a deadline.
Why do parents and students choose us?
- they are guided by people who have been through the admissions process at universities in the USA and other leading universities around the world,
- they receive a clear, structured action plan instead of a confusing stream of information from the internet,
- we work with real examples – essays, admissions questions, SAT tests,
- we monitor progress and report results on a regular basis,
- we are proud of a 100% success rate – all of our students gain admission to their dream universities.
Our goal is not to “drag” a student through to an exam, but to develop them into a candidate that the admissions committee actively wants on their campus.
Scope of support in the Studying in the USA programme
The programme is flexible – we tailor it to the stage the student is at. We work differently with a student in their first year of secondary school who still has three years to build their profile, and differently with a student applying in a few months’ time. The scope of support includes:
- analysis of the student’s profile and assessment of their realistic chances at individual universities,
- selection of a list of universities matched to the student’s profile and ambitions (reach, target, safety schools),
- application strategy – from an action calendar to deadline management,
- preparation for entrance exams – SAT, TOEFL, IELTS,
- work on the application essay (Common App, supplemental essays) – often involving multiple rounds of revision,
- support in obtaining and preparing letters of recommendation,
- building a portfolio of extracurricular and academic activities,
- preparation for any admissions interviews (alumni interviews),
- mentoring and emotional support throughout the entire process.
If the student is aiming for a scholarship, we also support them through the scholarship application process, and athletes can take advantage of dedicated support as part of the studying in the USA with an athletic scholarship programme. For the most ambitious candidates, we also run the Ivy League Plus programme.
Studying in the USA is part of a bigger picture – how we connect it with the rest of our offer
Applying to an American university does not begin when the form is submitted – it begins much earlier, sometimes as early as the first year of secondary school. That is why at MonPat Education we treat studying abroad in the USA as part of a broader, comprehensive educational pathway that also encompasses day-to-day learning and preparation for school-leaving examinations.
If your child is following an IB or A-Levels programme, that’s excellent – these qualifications are very well recognised by American universities. We can support the student with the Extended Essay and TOK or Internal Assessment, which further strengthens the candidate’s academic profile.
Students in the Polish secondary school system also receive our full support – from mathematics tutoring, through English language, to preparation for the SAT exam and a TOEFL course. As a result, the student has a single partner who guides them from start to finish – there is no need to search separately for different tutors, mentors and advisors.
If you are considering several geographical options, it is also worth exploring our offer for studying in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark or Italy. We will help you compare the systems and choose the one that best suits your child.
