Social studies tutoring

Civics and social studies tutoring – exam results that open doors to the best universities

Civics and social studies (WOS) is one of those subjects where students most often know the facts but struggle to weave them into a coherent argument. Yet the WOS matura exam, especially at the extended level, demands far more than memorizing legal regulations or politicians’ names. It requires an understanding of mechanisms, the ability to analyze sources, and the skill to write substantive responses under time pressure. Our WOS tutoring teaches what no textbook can – the strategy of thinking like an examiner and writing like a candidate for prestigious law, political science, or international relations programs.

We work with students who want to pass the WOS matura with a score above 90%, as well as those who treat the subject as a foundation for studies in Poland and abroad. The first consultation is free – during it we assess the student’s level, identify gaps, and establish a realistic work plan.

Who is our WOS tutoring for?

The offer is aimed primarily at secondary school students preparing for the extended-level WOS matura – both those targeting law, political science, journalism, or international relations programs at Polish universities (UW, UJ, SGH), and those planning to apply for studies abroad in social sciences, law, or public policy. We also welcome first- and second-year students who want to build solid thematic foundations before facing the CKE exam paper, as well as young people preparing for the Olympiad on Knowledge of Poland and the Contemporary World.

In our experience, students in the Polish education system often say the same thing: “I can handle the textbook exercises, but the exam papers catch me off guard.” This happens because the school curriculum is formulaic, the material is vast, and there is a lack of exam strategy training. We work the other way around – we start from the exam paper, not the textbook.

Why WOS matters more than it might seem

Civics and social studies is the subject that determines access to the most competitive humanities and social science programs in the country. Without a high score in extended WOS, it is difficult to realistically aim for law at UW or UJ, journalism, international relations at SGH, or European studies. At most of these programs the points threshold rises year on year, and the difference between 75% and 92% can determine whether a student gets into their dream program or faces a gap year.

WOS is also an ideal supporting subject for students planning to study in the UK on courses such as Politics, Law, International Relations, PPE, or Public Policy. The knowledge gained through tutoring translates directly into the material needed for the LNAT, the TSA Oxford, and for writing a strong personal statement grounded in a genuine understanding of political and social phenomena.

Looking at the bigger picture – a better matura result means a better university, a better university means a stronger academic network, and that opens doors to internships, exchange programs, and careers that would otherwise be out of reach. WOS also builds competencies that stay with the student for life: critical thinking, reading and comprehending complex source texts, and constructing arguments. These are skills that pay dividends in every field of study and every profession.

How we work – a methodology that delivers results

We treat every student individually, but the foundation of our work is consistent and proven. The first session begins with a diagnostic test that shows where the thematic gaps are and where the issues stem from a lack of exam strategy. On that basis we draw up a work plan with specific percentage targets and a revision schedule.

In lessons we work primarily on CKE exam papers from previous years. We analyze recurring question patterns, practice writing extended responses according to the examiner’s marking scheme, and regularly revisit the most common mistakes. A standing element is also current affairs review – analyzing recent political, legal, and international events, because WOS is a subject that requires understanding the world, not just quoting the constitution.

Why do parents and students choose us? Because after every session the student receives brief feedback with a specific list of things to revise, and the parent receives information on where their child stands in the study plan. We are available between sessions if a question comes up about homework or there is a doubt before a class test. Every few weeks we run a mock exam under matura conditions to measure real percentage progress. We don’t promise miracles – we show measurable results.

Our WOS tutors are graduates of leading Polish and international universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, and Imperial College London. These are not students who “help out” – they are mentors who know the exam system from the inside and have themselves navigated the most selective admissions processes in the world.

Scope of support – WOS tutoring

  • Full coverage of the core curriculum and extended level – politics, law, society, economics, the European Union, human rights, international relations
  • Analysis of CKE matura exam papers from recent years and identification of recurring patterns
  • Extended response writing practice based on the examiner’s marking scheme
  • Current affairs review and analysis – building analytical skills
  • An individual study plan adapted to the student’s pace and goals
  • Regular diagnostic tests and matura exam simulations
  • Work on scoring strategy and time management in the exam
  • Final revision in the pre-matura period
  • Support in preparing for the Olympiad on Knowledge of Poland and the Contemporary World and the Economic Knowledge Olympiad
  • Brief feedback after each session and ongoing contact between lessons

WOS as part of a broader educational strategy

WOS tutoring is often the first step in a longer educational journey that we help plan. If a student is thinking about law studies in Poland, a well-prepared extended WOS matura is the foundation. If they are aiming for studies abroad, the same material becomes the starting point for the LNAT, for writing a well-informed personal statement, and for admissions interviews at universities in the UK, the Netherlands, or Ireland.

As MonPat Education we offer comprehensive application support – from subject tutoring, through preparation for international matura exams IB and A-Levels, to full applications to foreign universities, including our flagship Oxbridge and Ivy League Plus program. A student who starts with us through WOS tutoring has access in the same place to mentors who will also guide them through university selection, mock interviews, and application strategy. This is a rare combination – a WOS teacher who is at the same time an Oxford graduate and knows what law admissions at Cambridge look like.

Whether your child is pushing for 90% in the extended matura or thinking about studying at the London School of Economics – WOS support at our level is an investment that pays off well beyond a single exam. Start with a free consultation, during which we will assess the student’s level together and propose a realistic action plan. The WOS tutor assigned to the student will be matched to their goal – the matura, an olympiad, or a foreign application.
