Biology tutoring

Biology tutoring — understand the subject, pass the Matura, open the doors to medicine and natural sciences

Biology is one of those subjects in which learning “by heart” stops being enough already at the extended Matura level. The CKE papers require the analysis of graphs, combining knowledge from various sections, and logical reasoning under time pressure. Students who do very well with textbook tasks often say: “I know the theory, but the papers surprise me”. Our biology tutoring solves exactly this problem — we teach how to think like a biologist, and not just memorise definitions.

At MonPat Education, we focus on real understanding of key issues — from cell structure, through photosynthesis and metabolism, to genetics, ecology, and analysis of biological data. Each student works according to an individual plan, receives original materials (diagrams, animations, sets of CKE tasks), and has contact with the tutor also between lessons. Thanks to this, not only the result grows, but also self-confidence before the exam.

The first consultation is free — it’s a good moment to check the student’s level and plan further work.

Who are our biology tutoring lessons for

Our biology help is dedicated mainly to high school students who:

  • are preparing for the extended Matura in biology and are aiming for a result above 80–95%, necessary for admission to medicine, veterinary science, biotechnology, or psychology,
  • feel that the school programme is too schematic and does not give them a deep understanding of the topic,
  • have gaps in specific sections (e.g. genetics, human physiology, biochemistry) and need to organise the material,
  • plan medical or natural science studies abroad and need to build a strong academic profile already in high school,
  • are preparing for the Biology Olympiad and need support in research work and theory going beyond the Matura,
  • study in the IB or A-Level system and need additional tutoring in A-Level Biology or within the IB programme.

We work both with beginner students who are just choosing biology as an extended subject, and with Olympiad youth who want to gain a competitive advantage in admissions to the best universities.

Why is biology key — especially with plans for medical studies

Biology is the number one admissions subject for all medical and natural science courses. Without a high result in extended biology, there is practically no question of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science, or physiotherapy in Poland. The admissions threshold grows from year to year and increasingly oscillates around 90% at the extended level.

The situation looks similar, and often even more demanding, in the case of foreign studies. Universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, or Italy expect not only high results, but also documented interest in the subject — participation in olympiads, research projects, or reading of scientific literature. If the student plans medicine in Italy or medicine in Ireland, biology becomes the foundation of preparation for exams such as IMAT or HPAT.

It is worth looking at this subject in the long term. A better biology result means a better university. A better university means a stronger network of academic contacts, access to prestigious internships, and a faster career path — in medicine, scientific research, or biotechnology. Investing in solid tutoring at the high school stage often pays off many times over a few years later, when the student chooses the field, the specialisation path, and the first professional job.

Working methodology — why parents and students choose MonPat Education

Our approach to learning biology does not consist of “going through tasks”. It is about understanding the mechanics of the exam and the logic of the subject. Every lesson is adapted to the pace and level of the specific student, and the work is conducted according to a clear plan that both the student and the parent can see.

We often start work with a diagnosis using a practice Matura paper — it shows where the strengths are and where there are gaps in knowledge. On this basis, we set out an individual plan, usually around 60 hours of study during the school year, with weekly lessons, revisions every four weeks, and regular mini-tests checking progress. After each session, the parent and student receive brief feedback with information about what has been done, what went well, and what we are working on in the coming weeks.

In practice, our lessons are based on:

  • thorough analysis of CKE papers from recent years and recognising recurring task patterns,
  • training in time management and scoring strategy — the student knows how many minutes they can devote to each part of the paper,
  • working on the most common mistakes of Matura students (incorrectly interpreted graphs, confused concepts from genetics, errors in describing metabolic processes),
  • building solid theoretical foundations in cell biology, physiology, genetics, ecology, and evolution,
  • original materials — diagrams, animations of biological processes, sets of problem tasks,
  • regular simulations of the entire Matura exam, so that the student knows the format and is not surprised either by the layout or by time pressure.

Parents care about specifics — and that is what they get with us. Measurable percentage progress from paper to paper, a clear indication of weak points, a systematic work plan, and ongoing communication are the elements that come back most often in opinions. The student also has contact with the tutor between lessons, which helps a lot when, during independent study, a question arises that requires a quick answer.

Scope of support in biology tutoring

Our biology teacher runs full, comprehensive preparation for the Matura and beyond. Within the cooperation we cover:

  • the full scope of the basic and extended levels — from cytology, through biochemistry, human physiology, and genetics, to ecology and evolution,
  • analysis of CKE papers and mapping of problem topics that come back most often,
  • an individual study plan adapted to the student’s pace and the date of the exam,
  • regular Matura simulations in conditions close to exam conditions,
  • final revision in the last weeks before the Matura,
  • support in preparation for the Biology Olympiad and for entrance exams to medical studies.

We conduct lessons in person and online — online biology tutoring is available to students from all over Poland and abroad, with no compromise in quality compared to traditional lessons.

Biology tutoring is just the beginning — think about the full educational path

An excellent result in extended biology is the key that opens further doors. A student who achieves high percentages on the Matura can realistically think not only about medicine in Poland, but also about studies abroad — from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, or Italy. That is why at MonPat Education we treat biology as part of a larger plan for the student’s development.

If a parent or student comes to us “just for tutoring”, during the cooperation it often turns out that it is worth thinking more broadly:

  • students planning medicine abroad can use the IMAT, HPAT, or UCAT course,
  • students aiming for Oxford or Cambridge in natural science courses can consider our flagship Oxbridge programme — comprehensive support in the application, mock interviews, and work on the personal statement,
  • students of international schools use preparation for the IB Matura and support in the Internal Assessment in biology,
  • the most ambitious students take part in the Biology Olympiad, which additionally strengthens their academic profile in admissions.

Our staff consists of graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other top universities worldwide. These are people who have themselves been through the admissions process at top universities and know what it looks like “from the inside” — from entrance exams to admissions interviews. Thanks to this, even an ordinary biology lesson becomes an opportunity for the student to see the subject through the eyes of someone who studied it at one of the best academic centres in the world.

If you are wondering how to best plan the preparation — from the Matura, through the choice of university, to the application — book a free first consultation. Together we will assess the student’s level, diagnose the needs, and prepare an action plan that makes sense not only for this year, but also for the next 2–3 years of education.
