SAT exam preparation course

SAT preparation course – your passport to studying in the USA

Applying to American universities is a process in which excellent school grades are only the beginning. A key element of admissions remains the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) — a standardised examination treated as the equivalent of a school-leaving qualification for candidates applying to universities in the United States. Without a high SAT score it is difficult to compete realistically for a place at Ivy League universities, MIT, or other prestigious academic institutions.

Our SAT preparation course has been created for students who want to approach the examination with a concrete strategy rather than just general school knowledge. We work on the Reading & Writing and Math sections, teaching students to solve tasks quickly, work under time pressure, and use the mechanics of the test to their advantage. The first consultation is free of charge — through it we diagnose the student’s starting level precisely and draw up a personalised preparation plan.

Importantly, SAT preparation is not only about learning to solve specific types of tasks. It is also training in analytical thinking, the ability to read demanding texts, and mathematical precision — competences that will pay dividends throughout a degree in the United States.

Who the SAT preparation course is for

The course is aimed at secondary school students who are planning to apply to universities in the United States — both to Ivy League institutions and to other top universities and colleges offering scholarships. It is also a solution for students on IB and A-level programmes who want to strengthen their admissions chances, as well as for those preparing an Ivy League Plus application or seeking scholarships at American universities.

Parents most commonly come to us when their child is planning to study abroad and needs a specific, measurable score for their application, or when attempts at independent study using free materials are not translating into progress in practice tests. Many students perform well in school mathematics or English but lose marks on the specific features of the SAT — unusual task instructions, time pressure, and the American logic of the test.

Why the SAT is an examination that cannot be underestimated

The SAT lasts 134 minutes and comprises 54 verbal tasks and 44 mathematics tasks, with scores ranging from 400 to 1,600 points. To compete realistically for a place at top universities — Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Yale — a candidate should achieve at least 1,500 points. This is a score that cannot be reached by chance or as a by-product of other study.

The SAT does not test knowledge alone. It tests above all the ability to think quickly, understand instructions, and manage time strategically under examination conditions. Each section has its own logic, its own traps, and its own tried-and-tested solving methods — and this is precisely what a well-run SAT course teaches.

The consequences are long-term and very concrete. A higher SAT score means real access to more selective universities, and with that a stronger academic network, better internships, prestigious employers, and an international career after graduation. It is one of those examinations where investment in thorough preparation pays back many times over — both in the form of a university place and in the form of scholarships that can cover a significant part of the cost of studying in the United States.

Our approach — how we run SAT tutoring

We work individually or in very small groups, because the SAT is an examination in which a candidate’s habits and attention to detail matter enormously. Every student begins with a diagnostic test, on the basis of which we build a personalised plan — we know where they are losing marks, what they already do well, and what requires specific work.

During the course the student regularly sits practice examinations using original College Board materials, gaining familiarity with the real test format and learning to manage their time. After every session we provide brief, specific feedback — what worked, what to improve, and what to work on before the next meeting. Parents have ongoing visibility of the stage their child has reached and of progress towards the target score.

Our SAT tutoring is delivered by graduates of leading universities worldwide, including Cambridge and Oxford — people who have themselves been through admissions processes requiring standardised tests. Between sessions we stay in contact with the student and parent, answer questions, and adjust the plan if the school timetable or examination calendar changes.

Why parents and students choose our SAT course

  • An individually tailored programme — we assess the starting level and design a pathway towards a specific target score, not a one-size-fits-all course template.
  • Work with original College Board materials and our own task sets prepared by experienced tutors.
  • Regular practice examinations with error analysis — the student knows not only how many points they scored but also why they lost the ones they did.
  • Test strategy training — how to read instructions, how to eliminate answer options, how to allocate time across tasks, and when to skip a task and return to it later.
  • Practice under time pressure, which determines the final score to the same degree as subject knowledge.
  • Brief feedback after every session and clear information about progress — for both the student and the parent.
  • Flexible session format — online or in person, adapted to the student’s school calendar.
  • The first consultation at no charge — an opportunity to see the method of working without any obligation.

What the SAT course covers

As part of the course the student receives full preparation for both sections of the examination and support with admissions strategy. We work on, among other things:

  • the Reading & Writing section — reading comprehension, grammar, editing written expression, and analysis of short academic and journalistic texts,
  • the Math section — algebra, data analysis, analytic geometry, advanced problems, and typical test traps,
  • SAT-specific test strategies (elimination, strategic guessing, time management),
  • regular full practice examinations and their detailed analysis,
  • selecting an examination date, planning a potential retake, and building a Score Choice strategy,
  • connecting the SAT score with the overall application — including the personal statement, letters of recommendation, and the candidate profile.

SAT is part of a larger whole — a comprehensive application pathway

An SAT score alone, even a very high one, is not enough to gain a place at a top American university. What matters is a complete candidate profile — depth of understanding in the relevant subjects, extracurricular activities, a thoughtfully written personal statement, a well-chosen university list, and a strategy for pursuing scholarships. For this reason, the SAT course at MonPat Education most commonly forms one element of a broader admissions support process.

For students preparing to study in the United States we typically suggest complementing the SAT course with a potential assessment and college-matching service and — depending on the student’s profile — a top-50 university application pathway or the Ivy League Plus programme. For students who are not yet certain about the US market, we also present alternatives — studying in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, or Denmark.

We often guide students through the IB International Baccalaureate or A-levels alongside SAT preparation, and also provide a TOEFL language course or IELTS Academic where a university requires additional evidence of language proficiency. This gives the student an organised application pathway — without loose ends and without having to piece everything together independently.

If your child is considering studying in the United States — or if you are a student preparing for this path yourself — start with a conversation. We will assess the current level, plan a study schedule around a specific examination date, and show how the SAT fits into the broader application process.
