IB Chemistry Tutoring
IB chemistry tutoring – a sure path to a high result in the international baccalaureate
Chemistry in the IB programme is one of the most demanding science subjects – it combines abstract theory, advanced calculations, and laboratory work assessed according to strict IB criteria. Many students understand the material but lose points because they do not write their answers to the markscheme, struggle with calculation-based tasks, or do not know how to construct an Internal Assessment in line with examiner requirements. Parents, meanwhile, often have no insight into what grading actually looks like and what to expect from a predicted grade.
IB chemistry tutoring at MonPat Education addresses this problem from the ground up. We work with SL and HL students, guiding them from a diagnostic assessment of gaps in knowledge, through systematic past paper practice, all the way to full IA support and preparation for the final exam. Our tutors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities around the world – often IB examiners themselves, who know exactly what assessors look for. The first consultation is free – it allows us to assess the student’s level, establish goals, and present a work plan before you make a decision about working together.

Who is IB chemistry tutoring for?
The offer is aimed at students of the IB Diploma Programme and Pre-IB who are preparing for the IB chemistry exam at standard level (SL) or higher level (HL). It is particularly well suited to those who:
- feel the difference between “I understand the topic” and “I write answers to IB criteria” and are losing points in mock exams,
- are beginning work on their Internal Assessment and do not know how to plan an experiment, choose a methodology, or write a report that meets the criteria,
- have difficulty with calculation-based tasks (stoichiometry, pH, Kc, thermochemistry) or with organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms,
- are aiming for a stable predicted grade of 6 or 7, essential for applications to medicine, biochemistry, natural sciences, or engineering,
- want to improve their IB exam result, or are just starting out and need solid foundations at Pre-IB or IB MYP level.
Why IB chemistry matters so much in university applications
Chemistry HL is one of those subjects that cannot be avoided. Without Chemistry HL you essentially cannot apply to medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, biochemistry, or Natural Sciences at Cambridge. Many universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Italy specify a particular grade – most often 6 or 7 in Chemistry HL – as a mandatory condition for admission. A weak result in this subject closes doors the student has not even had the chance to open.
IB chemistry is also demanding for another reason: the syllabus covers 11 main topic areas – from stoichiometric relationships, atomic structure, and periodicity, through chemical bonding, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, and redox processes, all the way to organic chemistry and data analysis. The exam tests not only knowledge, but above all the ability to solve problems, interpret graphs, analyse experimental errors, and work with reaction mechanisms. These are competences that must be practised systematically – studying theory from a textbook alone is not enough.
In the long term, a good IB chemistry result is not just points on the diploma. It means a better university, a stronger academic network, and greater career opportunities in medicine, research, the pharmaceutical industry, or chemical engineering. A decision made in the second year of secondary school can shape an entire professional career – which is why it is worth investing in IB chemistry early and consistently.
Our methodology – how we guide a student towards a grade of 7
Every student begins with a free diagnostic consultation, during which we assess the current level, identify gaps in the material, and set a realistic goal: a predicted grade, an exam result, a specific university. On this basis an individual work plan is created, which combines:
- markscheme analysis – the student learns to think like an examiner and write answers that earn the maximum number of points,
- regular work on SL and HL past papers, discussing every mistake and recurring question types,
- calculation training (stoichiometry, pH, Kc, enthalpy) and practice with a graphical calculator,
- comprehensive Internal Assessment support – from the research idea, through methodology and data collection, to a report structure that meets IB criteria,
- predicted grade optimisation and a revision strategy plan in the pre-exam period.
After every session the student and parent receive brief feedback describing the material covered, strengths, and areas for further work. At key moments – before mocks, the IA submission deadline, or the final exam – the mentor is available for quick contact between sessions. This gives the parent a clear picture of the child’s progress, and the student enters the exam with a sense of genuine preparation rather than improvisation.
Scope of support in IB chemistry tutoring
- exam preparation at SL (150 syllabus hours) and HL (240 syllabus hours) level,
- revision and deepening of all 11 main IB chemistry topics,
- Internal Assessment mentoring – experiment planning, data analysis, report editing,
- intensive work on past papers and typical exam tasks,
- diagnostic assessment of gaps and an individual revision plan,
- predicted grade optimisation and mock exam preparation,
- support in the period immediately before the exam,
- the option to combine chemistry support with general IA support as well as Extended Essay and TOK.
For students who did not pass the IB exam or wish to improve their result, we also run a dedicated IB resit programme.
IB chemistry is just the beginning – we will help you reach your dream university
For many students, IB chemistry tutoring is the first step in a much broader application process. A good HL chemistry result opens the doors to medicine, biochemistry, Natural Sciences at Cambridge, engineering, and science-heavy programmes at universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, and the United States. The international baccalaureate alone, however, is not enough – foreign universities assess depth of understanding, ways of thinking, and preparation for entrance tests and interviews.
That is why at MonPat Education we guide students comprehensively: from subject tutoring, through preparation for entrance exams such as IMAT, UCAT, and TSA Oxford, all the way to application support for studies in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, and the United States. Our flagship programme is the Ivy League Plus application programme and full support for Oxbridge applications, where mock interviews, personal statement editing, and entrance test preparation play a central role.
In other words: by starting with IB chemistry, the student gains access to an entire pathway that leads them all the way to their dream university – with a roadmap, feedback after every session, and mentors who have themselves been through the process. 100% of our students gain admission to their chosen university, and among MonPat Education graduates are students at Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial College London, the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University, and SGH Warsaw School of Economics.
