Studying in Ireland

Studying in Ireland — comprehensive preparation for applying to Irish universities

Dreaming of studying in Ireland is, for many students, a very conscious choice: an English-language education system, an international academic environment, the strong global rankings of Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and University of Galway, and on top of that, a dynamic job market in the technology, pharmaceutical, and financial sectors. The problem begins, however, when it comes to moving from dreams to a concrete plan. Parents and students often do not know the difference between an honours bachelor degree and an ordinary bachelor degree, how the NFQ system works, what language requirements individual universities set, or what the application process through CAO looks like.

At MonPat Education we guide students step by step through the entire application pathway to study in Ireland — from choosing a course, through preparation for language exams, to finalising application documents. Our team consists of graduates of Cambridge, Oxford and other world-leading universities, and the first consultation is completely free of charge, so you can comfortably check whether our way of working suits your family.

Who is this programme for?

Our offer is directed primarily at students in years 1–3 of secondary school who are planning to study abroad in Ireland, as well as those studying in the IB system or sitting the Polish matura, who are aiming for demanding fields: medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, engineering, computer science, economics, or business. The programme is also for parents who want to be certain that their child will not handle the application “at the last minute,” but will instead be guided in a thoughtful and systematic way.

Good grades are not enough. Admission to universities in Ireland is based on more than exam results — what counts is the way of thinking, the depth of understanding of the material, and the ability to conduct an academic conversation. Many students with very good grades are eliminated at the qualification stage because they were never taught in an academic style. Our preparation is not just help with formalities — it is a process of building a candidate profile who understands the material at a level beyond school, can think analytically, and comfortably analyses unfamiliar topics.

Why is it worth investing in conscious preparation for studying in Ireland?

The Irish higher education system is organised according to the levels of the NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications). The most common qualifications are: higher certificate at level 6, ordinary bachelor degree at level 7, honours bachelor degree or higher diploma at level 8, master’s degree at level 9, and doctoral degree at level 10. This sequence of 6–7–8–9–10 is worth remembering, as it shows the full educational pathway. In practice, the honours bachelor degree is of key importance — it is the stronger foundation for further postgraduate study and is most commonly required when applying to prestigious postgraduate programmes.

An undergraduate degree in Ireland typically takes 3–4 years, a master’s degree 1–2 years, and a doctorate a minimum of 3 years of research. If a stay in Ireland is planned for longer than 90 days, the programme must be included on the list of qualifying programmes under ILEP. The choice of the right language exam — Trinity ISE, IELTS, or Cambridge — may involve additional fees and affects which universities and courses a student can apply to. A mistake at this stage can delay the start of studies by up to a year.

Why does this matter in the long term? Because better preparation leads to a better university, and a better university means a stronger network of contacts, greater internship opportunities, and genuinely different career prospects after graduation. Graduates of good Irish universities have doors open to both the European and American markets — particularly in industries that have their European headquarters in Dublin, such as Google, Meta, Pfizer, and LinkedIn.

How we work — a methodology based on real university requirements

The Irish system places great emphasis on independence, critical thinking, and regular work, rather than passive learning. That is why our classes, from the very first session, are conducted in an academic style — we ask problem-based questions, teach the analysis of unfamiliar topics, and show how to construct arguments in the way expected by lecturers at Irish universities.

Each student receives an individual action plan (roadmap), tailored to their year group, level, strengths, and chosen courses. After every session we provide brief feedback — the student knows what is working and what needs improvement, while the parent can see concrete progress. Between sessions we remain in contact and respond to questions quickly, because we know that the application process rarely fits within a rigid 60-minute weekly schedule.

Why do parents and students choose us?

  • A team with personal experience of international applications — our mentors have themselves gone through the application process for Cambridge, Oxford, and LSE, and know what admissions committees really look for.
  • An individual 1–3 year plan tailored to the student’s year group and to their chosen universities and courses in Ireland.
  • Feedback after every session and progress reports, so parents always know what stage their child has reached.
  • Constant mentor availability between sessions — quick answers to questions about deadlines, documents, or the interpretation of university requirements.
  • Mock interviews and interview simulations in the style used by Irish and British universities.
  • Multiple rounds of personal statement editing and assistance with preparing application documents.
  • 100% success rate — our students gain places at their dream universities, both in Ireland and at other prestigious European institutions.

Scope of support for applying to study in Ireland

As part of the preparation for applications in Ireland, each student receives comprehensive support including:

  • student profile analysis — strengths, aptitudes, and realistic as well as ambitious goals,
  • university and course selection — taking into account NFQ levels and the specifics of individual programmes,
  • application strategy — from the timeline to the list of required documents,
  • preparation for entrance tests, including the HPAT exam for medicine applicants,
  • mock interviews and work on fluency in academic conversation in English,
  • personal statement development with multiple rounds of editing,
  • building an academic and extracurricular portfolio that genuinely strengthens an application,
  • a 1–3 year plan tailored to the student’s pace and goals.

Studying in Ireland as part of a broader educational strategy

Applying to Ireland is rarely a standalone decision — most often it fits into a broader educational plan for the family. That is why MonPat Education offers support at every stage that leads to a successful application abroad. If a student is still in middle school or at the beginning of secondary school, it is worth considering preparation for an IB school or choosing the right secondary school profile — because that choice often determines how strong a candidate’s starting position will be in applications 2–3 years down the line.

For students already in an international system, we offer IB and A-Level tutoring — including support with the Extended Essay, TOK, and IB Internal Assessment, which genuinely raise the final international baccalaureate score. For candidates considering medicine in Ireland, the HPAT preparation course will be essential, and the topic of medical studies in Ireland and assessing a candidate’s potential deserves its own dedicated discussion.

It is also worth bearing in mind that Ireland is not always the only destination on the list — many students apply simultaneously to study in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, or Denmark. We help build a “multi-country” strategy that increases the chances of an excellent university choice. Regardless of the destination, one thing matters above all — thorough academic, language (e.g. IELTS Academic or TOEFL), and personal preparation. That is precisely what we do at MonPat Education — from the very first conversation to the day your child opens the email with their offer of admission.
