Improving your A-Levels
A-Level resits — a second chance at the result that will open the doors of the best universities
An unsatisfactory A-Level result is not the end of the road — it is a moment to pause, analyse the causes, and prepare for a resit in a strategic way. Many students receive lower results than expected despite solid subject knowledge. The reason? The specific nature of the British examination system, which rewards precise argumentation, critical thinking, and the ability to work with the papers of specific examination boards such as Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge Assessment International Education.
At MonPat Education we help students effectively improve their A-Level results — in the subjects that are crucial for their admission to their dream university. Our mentors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities worldwide, who know exactly what examiners require from the inside. Thanks to an individual approach, intensive work with past papers, and a precise diagnosis of gaps, our students genuinely improve their results — often by one or two full grade boundaries.
The first consultation is free of charge — it is a good opportunity to talk about your situation and plan a path to improvement.

Who is an A-Level resit for?
Our support is aimed at students and candidates who consciously want to return to the examination and approach it again with better preparation. A-Level resits are a particularly valuable offer for:
- students whose A-Level result proved too low to meet the conditions of a conditional offer from a British, Irish, Dutch, or American university,
- candidates for medicine, engineering, economics, law, or STEM subjects, where grade requirements are very high (often A*A*A),
- students who want to improve the result in just one or two specific subjects that are most important for their academic profile,
- those following the A-Levels for adults pathway, who interrupted their studies and want to return to the examinations in order to increase their qualifications,
- students applying to universities outside the United Kingdom — in continental Europe and the USA — where A-Level results are equally valued and require high thresholds.
We work both with students who are one step from their dream university and need to “pull up” a single result, and with those who need a deeper reconstruction of knowledge in a given subject.
Why does improving an A-Level result matter so much?
The A-Level system differs fundamentally from the Polish matura. A student concentrates on 3–4 specialist subjects that are directly linked to their planned course of study. This means that a single result carries enormous weight — a low grade in chemistry closes the door to medicine, and a poor result in mathematics practically rules out engineering at universities such as Imperial College London or ETH Zurich.
A-Level examinations place emphasis on practical skills, critical thinking, argumentation, and independent data interpretation. This is not a memory test — it is an assessment of the candidate’s academic maturity. That is why knowledge from lessons alone is not enough. What counts is how the student constructs their answer, how they structure their argumentation, and how they handle open-ended questions.
In the long term, improving a result means far more than a better grade. It has a real impact on the student’s entire educational and professional future:
- a better result = a better university — often the difference between an offer from the University of Manchester and Imperial College London,
- a better university = a stronger network of contacts — alumni of top universities build careers in global corporations, research institutions, and startups,
- a stronger network of contacts = greater career opportunities — internships, graduate schemes, access to mentors,
- recognition of A-Level results in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, and the USA — which gives flexibility in choosing a study pathway.
Put plainly: a single grade can determine whether a student reaches a top 10 university in the world or settles for the second tier. An A-Level resit is an investment that pays dividends throughout an entire career.
Our methodology — why parents and students choose MonPat Education
We know that the process of improving a result is not only a matter of subject knowledge, but also of strategy, discipline, and emotional support. That is why our work is based on an individually designed pathway for each student, taking into account their application goal, strengths, and areas for improvement.
The first step is always a detailed diagnosis — we analyse the previous result, the mark scheme, the mistakes made in the examination, and the student’s working style. On this basis we create a resit preparation roadmap, a clear schedule that eliminates randomness. After each session the student receives brief feedback, and parents receive a periodic progress report. In this way nobody is left wondering “is this going in the right direction?”
During sessions we:
- work intensively with original past papers from the Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge Assessment International Education boards,
- analyse mark schemes and teach how to construct answers “to the mark scheme”,
- build the ability for critical thinking and independent argumentation — crucial in open-ended questions,
- develop specialist terminology in English, essential for precise answers,
- teach an effective revision strategy that makes the most of the time between examination sessions.
Between meetings we remain in ongoing contact with the student — we answer questions, help with current tasks, and analyse practice papers. Parents have a clear picture of where their child stands, what progress they have made, and what still needs to be refined. This availability and transparency is what our clients most frequently mention when we ask them why they chose us.
Scope of support in A-Level resit preparation
Our offer is flexible and fully tailored to the needs of the student. We work both with those who need support in a single subject and with those who want to thoroughly improve results across an entire science or humanities block.
- analysis of the previous result and identification of the reasons for the low grade,
- an individual resit preparation plan, tailored to the schedule of the specific examination board,
- intensive work with past papers and mark schemes,
- training in structuring answers, argumentation, and working with open-ended questions,
- support in mastering specialist terminology in English,
- regular mock exams in conditions as close to the real examination as possible,
- strategies for time and stress management during the examination,
- guidance on registering for a resit and choosing the optimal sitting date,
- ongoing mentor contact between sessions.
We work online — which gives complete flexibility regardless of whether the student is based in Poland, the UK, or another country.
An A-Level resit is often the first step towards something bigger
Many students who come to us needing to improve a specific subject discover that the problem does not end with the grade itself. A low A-Level result is often linked to a broader challenge — uncertainty about the path ahead, a lack of application strategy, or insufficient preparation for the admissions process at universities abroad.
That is why our tutoring offer is only part of a wider ecosystem. At MonPat Education we also offer comprehensive support for applications to universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, and the USA.
Our flagship programme is Oxbridge — comprehensive admissions support for Oxford and Cambridge, where an A-Level matura alone is not enough. What also counts is depth of understanding, the ability to think through problems, preparation for admissions tests (such as TSA Oxford, MAT, TMUA, LNAT, and UCAT), and mock interviews conducted by our mentors — often examiners at Oxbridge themselves.
If you are planning to study medicine, it is worth exploring our potential assessments for medicine in Ireland and Italy. For candidates to the USA we have dedicated programmes: applications to Top 50 universities and the Ivy League Plus application.
Improving an A-Level result is therefore not just an end in itself — it is often the beginning of a larger, conscious academic journey, in which we guide the student from the first consultation all the way to the acceptance letter from their dream university.
