Computer Science Olympiad
Computer Science Olympiad – preparation for the most prestigious programming competition in Poland
The Computer Science Olympiad is not an ordinary school competition – it is an academic test of algorithmic thinking, in which knowledge of a programming language alone is not enough. Many talented students who handle school computer science lessons without difficulty drop out at the school stage because they have never been trained in problem-solving thinking. OI tasks require complexity analysis, selection of appropriate data structures, and writing code that fits within strict time and memory limits – and Polish schools simply do not teach this.
At MonPat Education, we run preparation for the Computer Science Olympiad in a way that genuinely increases the chances of success – we work on archive OI tasks, develop algorithmic intuition, and teach the thinking that the organisers from the Fundacja Rozwoju Informatyki expect from finalists. Our students are guided by mentors who are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other top universities, who have themselves been through the Olympiad path and know what the judges pay attention to.
The first consultation is completely free – it serves to assess the student’s level, their previous programming experience, and to put together an individual preparation strategy.

Who is this computer science Olympiad training for?
Our programme is aimed at ambitious students who want much more than the school computer science programme. It is a path for people who want to develop their potential in a demanding but supportive environment. Specifically:
- secondary and primary school students who plan to take part in the Computer Science Olympiad or the Junior Computer Science Olympiad,
- people who “are good at school in computer science” but feel they need someone to introduce them to a real academic level,
- students planning computer science studies in Poland (UW, UJ, AGH, PW) and abroad, for whom the title of laureate or finalist of the OI is a gateway to the best courses,
- candidates for Computer Science courses at Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, or Dutch universities,
- parents who want their child to have a real, measurable distinguishing element in the university application – not another interest group, but a hard reference recognised worldwide.
Why is the Computer Science Olympiad so important?
The Computer Science Olympiad is probably the single strongest element of the candidate’s profile that a Polish student can obtain before applying to university. The title of laureate or finalist means in practice: the highest grade in computer science, exemption from the Matura exam in this subject, and easier entry to computer science studies at almost every Polish university. The top competitors represent Poland on the international stage – at IOI, EGOI, or BOI – and Poland has for years been among the absolute world top, winning medals year after year.
From the perspective of foreign admissions, the Olympiad title works even more strongly. Universities like Cambridge and Oxford recruit not on the basis of average grades, but on depth of understanding and the ability to think problem-solve – and an Olympiad participant has by definition already proved this. Admissions committees for Computer Science or Mathematics and Computer Science treat the OI final as one of the strongest pieces of evidence of potential that a candidate can present in their Personal Statement.
In the long term, the logic is simple: better preparation → a better Olympiad result → a better university → a stronger network of contacts → a genuinely better career. Graduates of the best computer science courses end up at companies where salaries and the development path have nothing to do with the average market. The investment in Olympiad training at the age of 14–18 pays off over the following decades – and that is precisely why parents who think about their child with a long-term view decide on this step sooner rather than later.
Working methodology – why do parents and students choose us?
Our lessons are completely different from classical tutoring. We work at a level close to the first year of computer science studies – the student tackles algorithmic tasks going beyond the core curriculum, reads academic literature (including classics such as CLRS), and we discuss every solution in terms of time and memory complexity.
Every student starts with a scope analysis – we check which data structures and algorithms they already know, where they have gaps, and how they handle non-standard problems. On this basis, we put together an individual work plan. In the lessons, the student writes code in C++ or Python, and we show them how an Olympiad participant thinks – step by step, from the first intuition to a working solution.
After each session, the student receives brief, specific feedback: what works, what needs improvement, what is worth going over before the next time. The parent has clarity about what stage their child is at, what the next steps are, and what to expect before the eliminations. Between sessions we stay in touch – the student can ask a question about a task they are working on, and we respond quickly, because we know that in the eliminations period, every day counts.
What specifically distinguishes our computer science competition training:
- work exclusively with tutors who know the system from the inside – many of them have themselves competed in OI or IOI and know exactly what decides success,
- regular error analysis – not to make the student feel worse, but so they understand why a given approach was too slow or incorrect,
- simulations of successive Olympiad stages in conditions close to the real ones (time limits, automatic scoring),
- preparation for the oral stage – many finalists drop out not on the tasks, but on the inability to defend their solution at the board,
- clear expectations, a predictable schedule, and a sense of calm for both the student and the parent.
Scope of support in preparation for the Computer Science Olympiad
Within our programme, we deal comprehensively with everything that decides success in the OI:
- scope analysis and level diagnosis – from the basics of data structures to advanced graph algorithms, dynamic programming, or computational geometry,
- work on archive Olympiad tasks – we solve tasks from previous editions of OI, OIJ, and IOI, BOI, and CEOI, so that the student has a real picture of the level,
- extended theory going beyond the core curriculum – academic literature, materials from Polish and foreign algorithmic camps,
- preparation for the oral stage – training in presenting a solution, argumentation, and defence before the committee,
- project consultations – help with current tasks, debugging, and code optimisation also outside standard sessions.
The Computer Science Olympiad as part of a wider strategy
Training for the Computer Science Olympiad is often the first step of a longer journey – and that is how we treat it at MonPat Education. The title of finalist or laureate opens the doors not only to Polish universities, but also to the most selective foreign courses: Computer Science at Cambridge, Mathematics and Computer Science at Oxford, MEng Computing at Imperial College London, programmes at ETH, TU Delft, or Scandinavian universities.
That is why, alongside Olympiad training, we offer comprehensive application support: the Oxbridge programme with all its stages from analysis of the candidate’s profile, through correction of the personal statement, to mock interviews often conducted by active Oxbridge examiners. We help in preparation for entrance tests such as TMUA or MAT, run IELTS Academic and TOEFL courses, and also advise on applications to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, or the USA.
If the student is simultaneously taking the international school-leaving exam, we run IB Computer Science tutoring, IB Mathematics tutoring, and support in the Extended Essay and TOK. For those interested in other olympiads, we also prepare for the Mathematics Olympiad and the Physics Olympiad – a frequent complement to the candidate’s profile for Computer Science.
Thanks to this, the parent and student who comes to us for preparation for the Computer Science Olympiad immediately knows that in one place they have the complete path – from the first solved Olympiad task, through the Matura, to the recommendation letter, the admissions interview, and the first semester at the dream university.
