Chemistry Olympiad
Chemistry olympiad – comprehensive preparation for one of the most prestigious competitions in Poland
The chemistry olympiad is a challenge that goes far beyond the school curriculum. It requires academic-level thinking, independent work with specialist literature, and the ability to solve non-standard problems. Many talented students who do excellently at school do not succeed in the olympiad because they have never been trained in the problem-solving thinking characteristic of this type of competition.
At MonPat Education we deliver chemistry olympiad preparation in a way that genuinely increases the chances of becoming a finalist or laureate. We work with the student individually, using archived problems, extended theory, and simulations of each stage. As a result, the student enters the olympiad prepared in terms of content, mentality, and strategy – with a clear understanding of what examiners are really looking for.
The chemistry olympiad is organized by the Polish Chemical Society under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Science. It consists of a preliminary stage (tasks from the information booklet, mandatory part A and optional part B), a regional stage (theoretical and laboratory sections), and a central stage comprising a 5-hour theoretical exam with five tasks worth 100 points and a 4-hour laboratory exam worth 30 points. The best finalists become laureates and may represent Poland at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO).

Who is chemistry olympiad preparation for?
Our program is aimed at ambitious students who want more than the school curriculum. We work with primary school students, secondary school students, and vocational school students alike – always tailoring the scope to the stage of study and level of advancement.
Chemistry olympiad training at MonPat Education is particularly well suited if:
- the student excels at school but lacks practice in solving non-standard problems that require analysis,
- they are planning to study science programs in Poland or abroad and want to build a strong academic profile,
- they are aiming for medicine, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or Natural Sciences at Cambridge,
- they dream of securing a university place at their desired program without needing to sit the extended chemistry matura,
- they want to develop their potential in a demanding but supportive environment, rather than tackling academic literature on their own.
Parents most commonly come to us when they can see their child is “good at school” – but feel that this is not enough to realistically compete for progression from the school stage to the regional stage and then to the final.
Why does the chemistry olympiad matter so much?
Success in the chemistry olympiad is not just prestige – it is a real investment in the student’s educational and professional future. The title of finalist or laureate opens doors that grades alone – however high – can never open.
The most important long-term benefits of olympiad participation:
- A guaranteed university place in Poland – laureates and finalists have guaranteed admission to most science and medical programs at leading universities (UW, UJ, PW, GUMed, and others) without needing to sit the chemistry matura.
- A powerful differentiator in foreign applications – Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, and ETH Zürich look for candidates who can demonstrate more than “good grades.” An olympiad title is one of the most recognized proofs of academic maturity.
- Building a top-tier candidate profile – the olympiad is a concrete achievement that can be written about in a Personal Statement and discussed during an admissions interview.
- Development of competencies that pay dividends throughout university: independent work with literature, analytical thinking, and working under time pressure.
- Confidence and the sense that the student can genuinely solve a problem they have never seen before.
The mechanism is straightforward: better preparation leads to better results, better results open the path to a better university, and a better university means a stronger network and greater career opportunities. The chemistry olympiad is one of the few application elements that can determine admission to medicine in Poland or to Natural Sciences at Cambridge.
Working methodology – why do parents and students choose MonPat Education?
Our preparation for the chemistry competition is not “tutoring with more problems.” It is an entirely different working model – closer to the first year of a chemistry degree, but tailored to the pace and level of the individual student.
We work on the basis of five methodological pillars: tasks that go beyond the core curriculum, academic literature, reasoning training, systematic error analysis, and simulations of individual olympiad stages. Every session ends with brief feedback for the student, so they know exactly what they have already mastered and what needs work before the next lesson.
Parents value the clarity and predictability we offer. At the start of our collaboration we establish a clear work plan through to the day of the competition, we report on progress regularly, and we are available between sessions when a student gets stuck on a problem at midnight. Our tutors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities – people who know the system from the inside and have themselves navigated demanding admissions and olympiad processes.
Our methodology is also distinguished by the fact that we do not focus solely on “the result.” We build genuine academic competencies that the student will use throughout university – regardless of whether they become a laureate or a finalist.
Scope of support in chemistry olympiad preparation
The program covers all the elements needed to progress effectively through each stage of the competition:
- analysis of the scope required at a given stage and the student’s individual competency gaps,
- work on archived olympiad problems – from part A, part B, and final theoretical sets,
- extended theory going beyond the core curriculum, based on academic literature,
- error analysis and problem-solving strategies under time-limited conditions,
- preparation for the laboratory stage – including work on procedures and interpretation of results,
- preparation for the oral stage and development of argumentation skills,
- project consultations between sessions and responses to the student’s current questions.
The chemistry olympiad and applications to foreign universities
It is worth remembering that chemistry olympiad preparation is often the first step in a much broader strategy – building a candidate profile for prestigious foreign universities. At MonPat Education we offer comprehensive support at every stage of this journey.
If a student is planning to study in the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, the US, or Italy, the chemistry olympiad becomes one of the strongest elements of their application – but not the only one. That is why we naturally combine olympiad training with our other services: IB matura preparation, IB chemistry tutoring, A-Level preparation, Oxbridge entrance exam courses, and UK university application support.
Students aiming for medicine will also find UCAT, IMAT, and Italy medicine potential assessment preparation with us. For those who want to build an even broader scientific profile, we also recommend junior subject olympiads and other regional subject competitions.
Our philosophy is comprehensiveness – a student who begins with chemistry olympiad training can naturally go on to benefit from academic mentoring, Personal Statement editing, or mock interviews before a Cambridge interview. Everything in one place, with tutors who have known their journey from the very beginning.
Not sure yet whether the chemistry olympiad is the right direction for your child? Book a free first consultation – we will assess the student’s potential, discuss their realistic chances of success, and plan a preparation path together that genuinely makes sense.
