Assessment of potential and matching colleges in the USA

Potential assessment and US college matching — your informed path to American universities

Applying to study in the United States is a process whose complexity surprises even the best students. The Matura result alone, even an excellent one, is not enough to get into your dream college. American universities look at candidates holistically — they analyse SAT/ACT scores, GPA, application essays, extracurricular activities, recommendations, and how well you fit the mission of a specific university. Without professional study advice for the USA, it is easy to waste your chances through a chaotic choice of schools, an incoherent candidate profile, or a poorly matched application strategy.

Potential assessment and US college matching at MonPat Education is the first, key step in an informed application. Our task is to carefully analyse your academic achievements, personality, passions, and career goals, and then match them with the specific offers of American universities. The result? A personalised list of 10–15 colleges divided into reach, match, and safety categories, a realistic application strategy, and peace of mind — for you and your parents.

The first consultation is completely free — it is a space in which we jointly assess the starting point and present the possibilities.

Who is this service for?

The Potential assessment and US college matching programme is aimed at high school students (most often in years 1–3) and their parents, who are thinking about studying in the United States seriously and long term. It is a particularly valuable solution for:

  • students of the Polish Matura, the IB DP International Baccalaureate, and A-Levels, who are aiming for the Top 50 American universities,
  • families considering an application with a scholarship option or the Ivy League+ path,
  • students with very good grades who don’t know how to translate them into a competitive candidate profile,
  • people who are just starting high school and want to plan their path 2–3 years in advance,
  • students combining academic studies with a sporting passion — thinking about a sports scholarship in the USA,
  • candidates for art courses who also need portfolio analysis.

Parents value this service above all because from the very first meeting, the information chaos disappears. Instead of reading dozens of rankings and forums, they receive a clear answer: which universities make sense, why, and what specifically needs to be done to get there.

Why is potential assessment the foundation of the whole application?

Applying to the USA is not a lottery — it’s a strategic project. American universities assess candidates on the principle of so-called holistic review, which means that much more is taken into account than just grades. What counts is GPA, SAT or ACT scores, English language level confirmed by a TOEFL or IELTS certificate (top universities usually require scores of at least 100/120 in TOEFL or 7.5/9 in IELTS), extracurricular activities, social projects, leadership, essays, and so-called demonstrated interest, i.e. real engagement with a specific university.

The choice of 10–15 colleges must be well thought out. Reach are ambitious universities, where chances are low but realistic. Match are schools well suited to the candidate’s profile. Safety are colleges where admission is practically certain. Without this pyramid, the application becomes chaotic guesswork, and the candidate loses time, energy, and often money on application fees.

What’s more, each university has its own mission and culture. Harvard values different things than Stanford, MIT looks at candidates differently than liberal arts colleges such as Williams or Amherst. Matching a college is not about rankings — it’s about a real alignment of your interests, study style, and goals with the university’s offer. Admissions committees immediately sense candidates who apply “because it’s a good school”, and reject those who can’t justify why they want to study there in particular.

In the long term, a good US college match translates into something far greater than a diploma. A better university means a stronger network of contacts, access to internships at global companies, world-class research, and a career that starts in a completely different place. It is an investment whose effects can be seen throughout a professional life.

How we work — the MonPat Education methodology

Our mentors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other top universities worldwide — people who have themselves been through the application process at the most selective universities and know what admissions committees actually look at. Work with a student begins with an in-depth diagnostic conversation, in which we analyse grades, strengths, passions, extracurricular experiences, career plans, and preferences regarding the academic environment.

On this basis, we create an individual potential report containing a recommended list of universities, a preliminary application strategy, and an action plan for the coming months. After each session, the student and parents receive a brief summary with guidance — it is clear what has been done, what the next step is, and what needs to be improved. Between meetings, we stay in constant contact, answer questions, and help with current decisions.

Why do parents and students choose us? Because we combine real experience of the admissions system with an individual approach to each candidate. We don’t work from templates — each plan is created from scratch, tailored to the specific student, their pace of work, and their goals. We show concrete examples of successful applications, discuss the strategies of previous students, and prepare the student to think of themselves as a thoughtful candidate, not just a Matura student.

Scope of support within potential assessment and US college matching

  • Analysis of the student’s profile — grades, achievements, ECs, strengths, and weaknesses,
  • Choice of universities — a personalised list of 10–15 colleges in reach/match/safety categories,
  • Application strategy — choice of Early Decision, Early Action, or Regular Decision path,
  • Entrance test plan — schedule of preparation for SAT/ACT and language exams,
  • Preliminary analysis of the personal statement and essay questions specific to the chosen universities,
  • Building an activities portfolio — pointing out areas for development so that the profile is coherent and distinctive,
  • 1–3 year plan — a complete application roadmap adapted to the year the student is in.

Comprehensive support — not just the USA

Potential assessment is often only the beginning of a longer journey with MonPat Education. Many students combine an application to the USA with considering alternative paths — studies in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, or Italy. Thanks to the fact that we are a company offering comprehensive educational support, we can help at every stage of this path.

If a student is preparing in parallel for the IB or A-Levels, we offer subject tutoring in all key areas — from mathematics and chemistry to history and English. We also prepare students for language exams such as TOEFL, IELTS Academic, and C1 Advanced, and for SAT and ACT entrance tests.

For students who, after the potential analysis, decide on a specific path in the USA, we have dedicated programmes: applications to Top 50 universities, applications with scholarships, and the prestigious Ivy League+ programme. Each of these programmes seamlessly continues the work started during the potential assessment.

Choosing a university abroad is one of the most important decisions in a young person’s life. The sooner you start planning consciously, the greater the chance that the US application will end in success, and that your child will find themselves in an environment where they will really thrive. Start with a free consultation — together we will check where you are and where you can realistically get to.
