TMUA exam preparation course
TMUA preparation course – the mathematical passport to top universities in the UK
Are you dreaming of studying mathematics, economics, or computer science at the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, or Warwick? A high school grade in mathematics alone is not enough. The most selective British universities require candidates to sit the TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission), which tests not so much knowledge of the curriculum as the ability to think mathematically under time pressure. Our TMUA preparation course has been created to prepare students for the real demands of the admissions process — not only to solve problems, but to think in the way that Cambridge examiners expect.
TMUA mathematics Cambridge is a test that eliminates the majority of candidates at the admissions stage. Without thorough, targeted TMUA preparation, even students with the highest school grades lose their chance of a place on their chosen programme. Our goal is to give students an advantage: an understanding of the test structure, proven problem-solving strategies, and the confidence that translates into results.

Who the TMUA preparation course is for
The course is aimed at ambitious secondary school students who are planning to apply to prestigious universities in the United Kingdom and need support that goes beyond the standard school curriculum. It is particularly valuable when:
- the student is applying for mathematics, economics, computer science, or engineering programmes in the UK,
- they are targeting Cambridge, LSE, Warwick, Durham, UCL, or other universities that require the TMUA,
- they are following the Polish matura, IB, or A-level programme and need to supplement their knowledge with the specific requirements of the TMUA test,
- they want to build a competitive candidate profile and strengthen their chances in the admissions process,
- they are capable in mathematics but lack practice with the type of problem-solving tasks the examination requires,
- they want to learn to work under time pressure in conditions as close as possible to the real examination.
We work both with first- and second-year secondary school students who are planning long-term preparation and with final-year students who need intensive support immediately before the examination session.
Why TMUA is crucial in applications to universities in the UK
A TMUA course is not just another round of mathematics tutoring — it is an investment in a specific stage of the admissions process that determines whether an application succeeds or fails. Many universities treat the TMUA result as a prerequisite when assessing candidates for quantitative programmes. A weak score effectively closes the door to a desired programme, even if all other elements of the application — grades, personal statement, extracurricular activities — are strong.
The examination tests two competences: advanced mathematical thinking (Paper 1) and logical mathematical reasoning (Paper 2). The tasks appear short but require a non-standard approach, the ability to identify the structure of a problem, and resilience under pressure. These are skills that schools typically do not teach — yet which Cambridge admissions teams expect.
The long-term benefits extend far beyond the examination itself. Thorough preparation leads to a stronger result, a stronger result opens doors to more selective universities, and studying at leading institutions in turn means access to a powerful network, prestigious internships, and wide-ranging career opportunities. Each stage of education builds the next — and the TMUA is one of those turning points where it is worth investing in quality support.
How sessions work — our approach
We work individually, with a clear plan tailored to the student’s level and goals. The first stage is a diagnostic — we identify gaps, assess which types of tasks cause difficulty, and establish how much time remains before the examination. On this basis we create a personalised preparation roadmap with concrete milestones.
After every session the student receives brief feedback — what they did well, what is worth working on, and which tasks to complete independently before the next meeting. Parents are kept regularly informed of progress and can always contact us between sessions with questions. We want both the student and the parent to feel that they are not going through this process alone.
Why do parents and students choose us?
- Our tutors are graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities worldwide — they know the system from the inside because they have been through it themselves,
- we work with genuine tasks from previous TMUA test sittings and our own materials designed to train mathematical thinking,
- we teach examination strategies: time management, task selection, and elimination of answer options,
- we regularly run mock exams under conditions as close as possible to the real thing,
- we analyse every mistake so the student understands not only the correct answer but the logic behind the task,
- we build confidence, which matters as much as knowledge — performing under pressure is a different game from a classroom test.
The first consultation is completely free of charge. It is the moment when we get to know the student, their goal, and their current level — and when the parent has the opportunity to ask any questions about the process.
What the TMUA course covers
The TMUA preparation course provides full, comprehensive preparation for both parts of the test. We work on every area that appears in the examination paper:
- review and deepening of topics in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, sequences, logarithms, and differential calculus,
- training in logical thinking and mathematical reasoning (Paper 2),
- analysis of the structure of TMUA tasks and typical traps,
- strategies for solving multiple-choice tasks under time pressure,
- work with past papers and our own task sets,
- regular mock exams with full discussion,
- an individual study plan for work between sessions,
- mentor support in building perseverance and examination resilience.
The number and intensity of sessions are tailored to the student’s schedule and the examination date. We recommend beginning preparation at least several months before the TMUA date, although we also work in an intensive format with students who come to us later.
TMUA is just one piece of a larger puzzle
Applying to universities in the UK is a complex process in which the TMUA is an important but not the only stage. Grades, a personal statement, the interview, English language proficiency, and a coherent academic profile all matter too. For this reason, our course connects naturally with the broader support we offer as part of a comprehensive application pathway.
If you are targeting Cambridge, it is worth considering our flagship application programme, which guides students through the entire process — from choosing a programme, through building an academic portfolio, to mock interviews. We also encourage you to explore our UK universities service, where we help students match a university to their profile and ambitions.
For students preparing for other admissions tests we offer complementary courses such as TSA Oxford, MAT, UCAT, and LNAT. For those who need additional language support we offer the IELTS Academic course and the Cambridge C1 Advanced course. IB students will also benefit from IB mathematics tutoring, which provides an excellent conceptual foundation for the TMUA.
Our goal is for every student — regardless of the stage at which they come to us — to leave the process with a complete, competitive candidate profile. The TMUA course is often the first step that leads to a much broader body of work on the application as a whole.
