HPAT exam preparation course

HPAT preparation course – your passport to medical studies in Ireland

Are you dreaming of studying medicine at one of Ireland’s prestigious universities, such as Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, or University College Cork? Excellent matura grades are only half the journey — the key to a place is the HPAT (Health Professions Admission Test), which determines who actually takes a seat in the lecture halls of the medical faculty. It is a test that does not examine your knowledge of biology or chemistry, but rather your way of thinking, your logic, and your ability to work under time pressure.

Our HPAT course is an original HPAT preparation programme in which we teach task-solving strategies, build familiarity with the test format, and develop the mental resilience needed to achieve a strong score. We work individually, with mentors who have themselves been through the application process for medical schools abroad and know exactly what distinguishes a “good student” from a “candidate accepted to medicine”.

Who the HPAT preparation course is for

Our support is used by students who are consciously planning a medical career outside Poland and want to avoid leaving anything to chance in the admissions process. The HPAT Ireland test is a threshold at which many capable candidates stop — solely because they did not understand the specific nature of this examination. The course is aimed primarily at:

  • students in years 1–3 of secondary school who are planning to apply to medicine in Ireland and want to begin preparation well in advance,
  • students following the Polish matura, IB, and A-levels who are adding the required admissions element to their candidate profile,
  • final-year students who need rapid, intensive preparation in their examination year (HPAT usually takes place in February),
  • students who want to compete genuinely with candidates from Ireland and around the world,
  • parents looking for an organised, proven preparation pathway — without confusion or unpredictability.

If you are wondering whether the course is right for your child, we invite you to a free consultation during which we will assess the candidate’s current level and propose an action plan.

Why HPAT is crucial for applications to medicine in Ireland

HPAT is a test that cannot be “memorised”. It consists of three sections: Logical Reasoning & Problem Solving, Interpersonal Understanding, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. It lasts approximately 2.5 hours, is in multiple-choice format, and is taken on a computer — with no breaks between sections. It tests not subject knowledge but logic, understanding of interpersonal relationships, and non-verbal reasoning. These are skills that school typically does not develop.

In Irish medical admissions the HPAT score is added to the matura result — meaning that even an outstanding school transcript cannot compensate for a weak test result. Many candidates with very strong grades fall at this stage precisely because they did not understand that HPAT is a test of skills, not of conventional knowledge. Good preparation can raise a score by tens of percentile points — and in medical admissions every point matters.

Looking at the long term: a strong HPAT score is not just one university acceptance. It is a start at a medical school with international standing, access to a global alumni network, a degree recognised across the European Union, and significantly broader specialisation opportunities in the future. Better preparation leads to a better university, and a better university opens the path to a stronger medical career — in Ireland, in Poland, or anywhere else in the world.

How our sessions work

We run the HPAT course on an individual basis or in very small groups, always with a clearly defined action plan. We do not work “from test to test” — we build competences step by step. Every student receives a personalised roadmap that takes into account their strengths, areas for development, and the application timeline. After every session we provide brief, specific feedback — the student knows what they did well and what they need to work on before the next meeting.

Why do parents and students choose us? Because we know what the HPAT looks like from the inside. We work with genuine examination-style tasks, run practice tests under time pressure, and analyse every mistake as learning material. Between sessions we remain available — we answer questions, send additional materials, and monitor progress. Parents receive regular progress reports so they know exactly what stage their child has reached.

In practice we focus on what genuinely raises the score:

  • task-solving strategy in each of the three HPAT sections,
  • time management — exercises simulating the full length of the examination to build familiarity with the pace,
  • analysis of question types and typical logical traps,
  • developing non-verbal reasoning and interpretation of graphical patterns,
  • training in cognitive empathy and analysis of social situations in the Interpersonal Understanding section,
  • regular diagnostic tests and error analysis,
  • contact between sessions — students are not left with questions on their own.

Our team consists of graduates of Cambridge, Oxford, and other leading universities who have themselves been through demanding admissions processes. They know how an admissions panel thinks and what it expects from a medicine candidate.

What the HPAT course covers

Our HPAT medicine course is far more than working through a practice test book. It is comprehensive preparation covering:

  • an initial diagnostic — assessment of the current level and identification of areas requiring work,
  • an individual preparation plan tailored to the examination date and other school commitments,
  • detailed work on each of the three test sections (logic, interpersonal, non-verbal),
  • regular mock tests under conditions as close as possible to the real examination,
  • training in working under time pressure and managing examination stress,
  • analysis of mistakes made and strategies for eliminating them,
  • advice on the medical application process in Ireland itself,
  • regular feedback for the student and progress reporting for parents.

HPAT is just the beginning — we will help you go the whole way

Applying to medicine abroad is a process made up of many stages, and HPAT is only one of them. Matura results, a well-prepared CAO application, an appropriate level of English, and a considered choice of university all matter too. For this reason, our HPAT course most commonly forms part of a broader, comprehensive collaboration with the student.

As part of our potential assessment for medicine in Ireland we evaluate the candidate’s realistic chances, and through our support with applications to study in Ireland we guide the student through the entire admissions process. We also provide support with preparation for the IB and A-levels, offer biology and chemistry tutoring, and run IELTS Academic courses, which are frequently required in applications.

If you are also considering other medical admissions routes, it is worth exploring our courses for the IMAT examination (medicine in Italy) and the UCAT (medicine in the United Kingdom). This gives you coherent support regardless of the country in which you want to study.

The first consultation is free of charge. During the meeting we will discuss the student’s goals, assess their starting point, and prepare a concrete action plan leading to medical studies in Ireland.
