Online pre-IB tutoring

Pre-IB online tutoring – a solid foundation before starting the IB Diploma Programme

Entering the IB programme is for many students a significant leap – from the Polish or another national system to an academic style of learning in which deep understanding, independent thinking, and fluency in English are what matter. Parents often hear from their children: “I was doing brilliantly at school, and suddenly I can’t keep up.” This is not a question of ability – it is a question of preparation. Pre-IB online tutoring solves this problem before it arises: it levels up subject knowledge, teaches students to work with academic texts, and introduces the specifics of IB assessment. As a result, the student does not spend the first semester of IB1 catching up on the basics, but works towards their predicted grade from day one.

At MonPat Education we run a preparatory IB course in an online format, which means the student can work from anywhere in Poland or abroad – with a tutor who is themselves a graduate of the IB or a leading university (Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial College). The first consultation is free and serves as a genuine diagnostic: what the student already knows, what they are missing, and which plan will produce the best outcome.

Who is pre-IB online tutoring for?

In our experience, preparation for the IB Diploma Programme is particularly needed by students facing the specific challenge of changing educational system or wanting to minimise the risk of a weaker start. The offer is aimed at:

  • students in years 8–10 who are planning to begin the IB DP in Poland or abroad and want to make a strong start rather than spend the first year catching up,
  • students transitioning from the Polish system to an IB school – where working with texts, essays, and assessment methods (markscheme) looks quite different,
  • those who want to strengthen their academic English to B2/C1 level before entering the IB – because even a very good student in a Polish school does not always cope with reading a chemistry or history textbook in English,
  • students planning to sit HL Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics – subjects in which pre-IB preparation genuinely determines whether the HL level results in a 6/7 or a 4/5,
  • parents who want to avoid the stress and chaos of the first months in a new school and have a clear picture of where their child stands in terms of preparation.

We also help students sitting entrance exams to prestigious IB schools in Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań) – preparing them specifically for the requirements of a given institution.

Why pre-IB matters more than it might seem

The IB programme is not just more difficult material – it is above all a different way of thinking and working. An IB examiner does not assess whether the student “understands the topic” – they assess whether the student can answer in line with the markscheme, construct an argument in an essay, and demonstrate critical thinking in TOK or the Extended Essay. These are skills that the Polish school system practically does not teach.

That is why a solid IB preparatory course has genuine, long-term consequences:

  • Higher predicted grades – the forecast grades sent by the school to universities. It is these (not the final IB result) that determine whether the student receives an offer from Oxbridge, Imperial, LSE, Bocconi, or Dutch universities.
  • A genuine chance of 40+ IB points – which opens the doors to the most selective programmes: medicine, natural sciences, engineering, economics.
  • Less stress in IB1 and IB2 – the student is not catching up, but from the very beginning works strategically on the IA, EE, and past papers.
  • Better time management – the IB is notorious for overloading students. A student who has already learned planning and project organisation has an enormous advantage.

In practice this works as follows: better IB results → an offer from a better university → a stronger network from the very start of studies → significantly broader career opportunities. The decisions a student makes at the age of 14–16 (including whether they prepare well for the IB) have an impact on where they will be working at the age of 25. We do not want to alarm – we want to show that pre-IB is not “extra classes” but an investment in the entire next stage of education.

How we work – the MonPat Education methodology

Every student begins with a free consultation, during which we assess their level in individual subjects and their language proficiency. On this basis we build an individual plan – because the pre-IB programme for a student entering HL Maths and Chemistry looks different from that of a student aiming for humanities SL subjects.

Why do parents and students choose us?

  • Tutors are graduates of the IB and top universities – Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial College London. They know the system from the inside, because they have been through it themselves, and many of them also work as IB examiners.
  • After every session we provide brief feedback – the parent knows what the child practised, what went well, and what we are working on next. No guesswork.
  • We work with materials typical of the IB – past papers, excerpts from IB textbooks, sample IAs, and assessment criteria. The student acclimatises from the outset to a format that most of their peers find daunting.
  • We teach academic writing in English – analysis, argumentation, essay construction, and working with sources. These are competences that pay dividends throughout the IB and beyond at university.
  • We are available between sessions – if a student gets stuck on a task or does not understand an instruction from their new school, they do not wait a week for the next lesson. They send a message and receive a reply.
  • The online format means flexibility and no geographical limitations – we work with students from all over Poland and with Polish families living abroad.

Our 100% success rate – all our students gain admission to their dream universities and pass the IB successfully – is built on exactly this approach: individual attention, a clear plan, regular feedback, and a tutor who knows what the examiner is genuinely looking for.

Scope of support in pre-IB online tutoring

As part of pre-IB preparation we provide comprehensive support that can be tailored to the student’s needs – from a single subject to a full preparatory package:

  • levelling up core subjects – mathematics (preparation for AA and AI, SL/HL), chemistry, physics, biology, English, IB Polish,
  • academic English – subject-specific terminology, comprehension of complex texts, essay writing to IB criteria,
  • introduction to the specifics of the IB – what TOK is, how the Extended Essay works, what the Internal Assessment looks like, and how points are calculated,
  • academic habits – time planning, project organisation, note-taking, and preparation for IB school entrance exams,
  • flexible formats – long-term sessions (several months before the IB start), intensive 2–3-week holiday courses, or thematic modules (e.g. academic English only, mathematics only, essay only),
  • one-to-one or small group support – depending on the student’s preferences and goals.

What comes next? Pre-IB is the beginning of a longer journey

A well-run IB preparatory course is only the first step. Our students typically stay with us throughout the entire IB Diploma Programme – because they know they will receive the same standard of work in IB subject tutoring, Internal Assessment support, and Extended Essay and TOK support.

And then – when the application stage arrives – we help with what most students and parents find most opaque: university selection, writing the Personal Statement, preparation for entrance tests (such as TMUA, IMAT, LNAT), and mock interviews. Our flagship programme is the Oxbridge and Ivy League application programme, but we also support candidates applying to universities in the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, and the United States.

In other words: by starting with pre-IB online tutoring, the student enters an ecosystem that guides them all the way to the threshold of their dream university. That is precisely what we want to offer parents and students – predictability, a plan, and support at every stage.

The first consultation is free. Book an appointment, let us talk about where your child currently stands, and together we will draw up a realistic preparation plan for the IB.
