The TSA Oxford is not “just another test” alongside the school-leaving examination. It is the first selection threshold that Oxford tutors use to identify, from thousands of applications worldwide, the candidates invited to interview. All applicants have strong grades, strong references, and polished personal statements \u2014 the TSA gives the university an additional, comparable point of reference that allows it to distinguish candidates by the way they think, not only by their marks.<\/p>\n
The examination lasts 120 minutes in total and consists of two parts:<\/p>\n
\n- Section 1<\/strong> \u2013 a 90-minute multiple-choice test containing 50 questions (25 on problem-solving and 25 on critical thinking). It assesses numerical and spatial reasoning, argument analysis, and the logic of everyday language.<\/li>\n
- Section 2<\/strong> \u2013 a 30-minute written task requiring a short, logically structured essay on one of four general topics. This section is compulsory for, among others, candidates for PPE, Experimental Psychology, Human Sciences, and Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Working with the TSA test<\/strong> requires skills that schools rarely teach systematically: quickly eliminating wrong answers, recognising argument structures, formulating a clear thesis in 450\u2013550 words, and maintaining pace for the full 120 minutes. These competences pay dividends far beyond the day of the examination \u2014 they determine fluency in the first year of study, the quality of academic essays, and confidence during Oxford supervisions. A stronger TSA result means a concrete interview invitation, a better university, a stronger network, and genuinely broader career opportunities<\/strong> \u2014 both in the United Kingdom and in other countries where an Oxford degree opens doors.<\/p>\nHow we work \u2014 the TSA course methodology<\/h2>\n
Every TSA course<\/strong> at MonPat Education begins with a diagnostic. The first session is used to assess how the student handles different types of tasks, where they lose time, in which areas they make systematic errors, and where only fine-tuning is needed. On this basis an individual study plan is created \u2014 with a realistic schedule up to the examination date and clearly defined goals for each stage.<\/p>\nSessions are led by mentors who are themselves graduates of the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and other leading universities \u2014 they know the admissions system from the inside and remember what their own admissions tests were like. This is an advantage that no textbook can replicate. After every session the student receives brief feedback with specific recommendations, and the parent receives a clear update on progress and next steps. Questions can be asked between sessions and answered promptly; we do not leave anyone with a doubt for a whole week.<\/p>\n
In practice the course combines intensive technical training with work on the mental dimension of the examination.
